The Philippines’ 7th largest island, Mindoro is divided between Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro in 1950 under the Republic Act No. 505. The latter occupies the western part of the island and bordered by Oriental Mindoro, Verde Island Passage and Mindoro Strait. Occidental Mindoro is made up of 11 municipalities. Its capital is Mamburao, while the prominent municipality of San Jose is the largest and considered the center of commerce and entertainment. Tagalog is widely spoken in the province, followed by Ilocano, Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a. The province is blessed with rich marine bounties and home to one of the most popular and amazing coral reefs in the country, Apo Reef.

How to Get Here

Getting There
By air: San Jose Airport services the province of Mindoro. Cebu Pacific has regular flights going to the province from Manila. Travel flight takes roughly 30 minutes by air.

By land: There are buses which go directly to San Jose from Manila that includes a RORO ferry ride that operates from Batangas City to Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro. Travel time takes 3 hours and passes through the Verde Island Passage. Bus fare is less than Php 700.00.

This popular food in Occidental Mindoro is made with mature octopus or pugita cooked in vinegar and soy sauce. It is usually served with hot rice or as a perfect pair with an ice cold beer.
